A practical AI use-case scorecard

The best AI use case is not necessarily the task that looks most impressive in a demo.

Value

Estimate the economic or service impact if the workflow improves. Time saved is useful only when it changes capacity, speed, quality or customer outcomes.

Workflow fit

Ask where the model enters the process, what information it needs and what happens immediately before and after its output.

Consequence and reversibility

Low-consequence drafts are different from autonomous actions that affect money, rights, safety or access. Reversible errors permit lighter controls.

Oversight

Define who can detect a problem, who can intervene, what should be logged and when the system should stop rather than improvise.
