Monitoring autonomous agents without panic

The useful question is not whether an AI agent is “good” or “bad.” It is whether its behavior remains inside the authority, policy and operating boundaries the organization intended.

What to monitor

Track identity and ownership, permissions, tool access, data access, important actions, exceptions, policy conflicts, human overrides, failed tasks, unexpected tool use and material changes in behavior.

Escalation matters

Monitoring only creates value when someone owns the response. Define what should pause automatically, what requires human review, what gets documented, and who can restore the system.

This is general educational content and not legal or regulatory advice. Requirements should be checked for the relevant jurisdiction and use case.
