Human oversight that actually changes outcomes

Putting a person somewhere in the workflow does not automatically create meaningful oversight.

Give reviewers the right context

A reviewer needs the input, the system output, relevant policy, important provenance and any uncertainty signal needed to make a decision.

Protect time to review

If throughput expectations make careful review impossible, the nominal control will degrade into routine approval.

Define authority

People must be able to reject, pause, escalate or modify an automated action without disproportionate friction.

Monitor the oversight mechanism

Track override rates, disagreement patterns, review time and outcomes. Extremely low override rates can indicate excellent performance—or ineffective review.
